Working One-on-One with Professional & Peer Tutors

Subject tutors can help define and explain concepts, clarify examples from course content, and guide students toward understanding a particular topic. They cannot answer specific questions related to any homework, quiz, exam, or major project. These questions should be directed to the instructor, who is the course’s primary contact.

UMGC's one-on-one tutors are all available through Tutor.com and fall into one of the following categories:

Professional tutors are experts in the subjects that they support and can provide examples and explanations beyond the course content. They are available for on-demand and scheduled sessions.

Peer tutors are knowledgeable about the subjects that they support and can draw from their own learning experience in a course to assist you. They are available only for scheduled sessions for a select group of courses.

How to Access One-on-One Tutoring at No Cost

To request a one-on-one tutoring session:

Go to the "Academic Support" or "Resources" tab at the top of your course page, or select "Student Support" from the left-hand menu in the Student Portal (MyUMGC).
Click on "Tutoring" in the classroom menu or "Work with a Subject Tutor" in the portal menu to access UMGC's specialized Tutor.com platform.
Once in the Tutor.com platform, you can select the following tabs:
- "Connect Now" to connect with a tutor at the moment (available 24/7),
- "Schedule a Session" to schedule a time and day with a specific tutor (), or
- "Ask LEO" to get help from an AI tutor chatbot.

Get Help via LEO: Our AI Tutor Chatbot

To access help from LEO, , select your class, select Academic Support in the menu, and then click tutoring. From there, please select "Ask LEO" for AI-based tutoring help in any of the following subjects:
