How do I change my major?

To change your major:

  1. Work with a Success Coach: to ensure the new program aligns with your goals.
  2. Email Department: Send an email to studentsfirst@umgc.edu with the following information: Your Name, EMPLID (Student ID), Current Program, and Requested Program
  3. Wait for a Follow-Up: Your Success Coach will respond within 24-48 business hours.

If changing to one of the following programs, you must acknowledge that your catalog year will update to the program's start year and cannot be reverted:

  • Computer Networks and Cybersecurity
  • Cybersecurity Management and Policy
  • Health Services Management
  • Homeland Security
  • Software Development and Security

Army Students: Update your degree plan in ArmyIgnitED and notify your UMGC Advisor to update MyUMGC.

Veterans Using Education Benefits:

  • Chapter 31: Get approval from your case manager.
  • All VA Benefits Users: Submit to the VA ( or by mail to VA, PO Box 4616, Buffalo, NY 14240).
