Aimin Liao is a success coach at University of Maryland Global Campus. She joined the university in June of 2021. For UMGC鈥檚 75th anniversary, we spoke with her about some of her favorite UMGC experiences and where she hopes to see the university in years to come. She works remotely and supports students throughout their education journey. She develops learning strategies, assists with scheduling classes, and is a support system as students achieve their goals.
If you had one word to describe your experience at t 黑料社区, what would it be and why?
Inspiring
It is inspiring to see our students overcome their challenges to complete their degrees.
It is inspiring to see our leadership put 鈥渟tudents first鈥 in action.
It is inspiring to see other success coaches develop a connection with their students.
Can you name some UMGC faculty/staff members (or even students/alumni) who impacted your career here at t 黑料社区?
Being a rookie, I felt unsure of myself. My assistant director, Marie, channeled my concerns, impacted my career here at t 黑料社区, and encouraged me to participate in different projects.
UMGC is celebrating 75 years of excellence in education. What does that history mean to you? Why is it important?
It is an important milestone for UMGC because it represents our long history of serving students. I am sure UMGC will continue providing excellent educational opportunities to all students.
Which of 黑料社区 core values resonates with you the most and why?
鈥淪tudents first鈥 is my favorite core value because we focus on students鈥 needs and provide personalized care for our students. Many of our daily responsibilities also align with the students first core values, such as promptly responding to students鈥 emails and keeping in touch with our students regularly.
UMGC recently introduced its new mission 鈥淚nspire hope, empower dreams, and transform lives ... one student at a time.鈥 What does that mean to you?
UMGC is not just an online institution. UMGC is a community where students feel empowered to achieve their educational needs and goals. We also care about each student individually.
How do you feel about t 黑料社区鈥檚 role in supporting the military, wherever they are?
I am proud to say that t 黑料社区 has European and Asian campuses, which provide convenient locations and services to military students.
Where do you hope to see UMGC in the next 75 years?
I hope UMGC will continue providing high-quality education to our students, practicing our core values of students first, and offering more programs and locations in the next 75 years.
