Collegiate associate professor of聽computer聽science at University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC)聽Najam Hassan,聽PhD, has been selected as a National Science Foundation National AI Research Resource ()聽AI Education Fellow, one of 25 in the inaugural cohort.

This national honor recognizes Hassan鈥檚 long-standing leadership in聽artificial intelligence聽education, from helping launch聽Maryland鈥檚 first聽bachelor鈥檚聽degree聽in AI聽to contributing to statewide efforts on responsible and ethical AI.聽NAIRR fellows are聽tasked with shaping how students, educators, and institutions across the country access and learn with emerging AI technologies.

For UMGC learners, this聽year-long聽fellowship聽will translate to聽even stronger聽alignments聽between what they learn in the classroom and what today鈥檚 employers need. Through the NAIRR community, Hassan will bring back insights, resources, and best practices聽to help聽keep聽UMGC聽programs current, practical, and grounded in responsible innovation.聽

His appointment also underscores UMGC鈥檚 growing role as a leader in accessible, workforce-ready AI education, ensuring聽that聽learners are well-prepared for the opportunities and challenges of an AI-driven world.聽
