UMGC students and alumni job seekers can discover new career opportunities by participating inÌý. These virtual fairs bring together multiple employers in one platform, giving attendees easy access to job opportunities and direct interaction with recruiters—no matter where you are.

Can’t make it to a live event?ÌýNo problem! Be sure to register anyway—registration gives you full access to the platform one week prior to the live event to create a profile, upload a resume, and apply to opportunities.

By following the recommendations below, you will be prepared for an upcoming Virtual Recuritment Event!

1. Update Your Resume

When you for a fair, you’ll create a profile and be asked to upload your resume. To ensure that your resume is ready for recruiters,ÌýÌýprovides instant feedback to create or update your resume.

Pro Tip: Once you have perfected and uploaded your resume, recruiters will have access to your resume before, during, and after the event.

2. Research Potential Employers

Next, take some time to review the review the Employer Matrix—your go-to guide for seeing which organizations will be participating. This resource offers a quick snapshot of each employer, helping you identify those that align with your interests, experience, and career goals.Ìý

Once you've pinpointed potential matches, you can visit company websites, review job openings, and take note of roles that fit your background. This step is often overlooked—but it’s one of the best ways to stand out and show genuine interest.

Pro Tip:ÌýIf you find a position that excites you, apply before the fair. Doing this shows initiative and also signals genuine interest to recruiters, giving you a competitive edge when you speak with them one-on-one.

3. Join a Prep Session Webinar

Maximize your fair experience by attending one of UMGC’s Virtual InternPLUS Prep Sessions. These dynamic, interactive sessions are designed to equip you with everything you need to succeed. You’ll be able to understand the event format, explore open positions, master the virtual platform, and refine your elevator pitch.

Each session includes insights from a guest speaker—often a recruiter or employer attending the fair—offering a valuable insider’s perspective. UMGC’s Career Advising Specialists will also share practical tips you can use to stand out and make meaningful connections.

4. Practice Your Pitch

One of the best parts of a virtual career fair is the chance to chat one-on-one with recruiters—making clear, effective written communication essential. Take the time to write, edit, and refine your written introduction. Your introduction should highlight strengths, show interest in the employer, align your skills with their needs, and share your personal 'why.'ÌýTips for your pitch:ÌýÌý

  • Be concise.
  • Avoid slang and emojis.Ìý
  • Write in full sentences.

Also, prepare a few questions in advance for each recruiter to maximize your time with them and take detailed notes during the event.

Registration gives you full access to the platform throughout Preview Week, which starts one week prior to the live event. During preview week, you'll be able to:

  • Update your profile and upload your resume.
